Angels Disappeared

Nina Simone/ Ne me quitte pas

F Guzzardi

A few years ago (almost 18) I was in Montreux (Switzerland) during the music festival "Montreux Jazz".

For a series of  lucky circumstances, I went to finish, along with some friends, in a night bar. The night could seem quite trivial if it were not for the arrival on the scene (in the sense of entry) of a woman accompanied by two men's and 3 other women's. One of my friends stood and motioned the group to sit at our table, he made the presentations and  explains `who was the lady in question.

I confessed my ignorance on the subject of jazz but none of those present remarked to me, in fact the conversation `move on completely different subjects.

The woman spoke in good French with a  strong American accent and I felt suddenly lifted from my heavy italian accent. She expressed his love for Europe and especially for the south of France where he was to buy a house to reside permanently. The night `slide gently as it had begun, the lady went to the hotel she thanks for the company and giving me his autograph, who kept of one the my most cherished memories.

The next night I went to listen to the Auditorum of Montreux and I was as enchanted as she sat at his piano and sings a song by Jacques Brel that I knew already  but by her, with her American accent, he took another form and become "one of his songs", one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard and wonderful   interpretation.

I not see her again but I continued to listen to it, until the day of his death, which occurred a few years later at his home, in the south of his loved France.

"Adieu Madame Nina Simone, je vous embrasse tres fort"

Abuse victims demand newly discovered Catholic Church funds

Within the 6,000-plus pages of documents released by the Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee is evidence that Archbishop Timothy Dolan moved money that may have gone to victims of childhood sexual abuse into a fund for cemetery care. Dolan calls the charges "old and discredited attacks."

Among the information in new documents released by the Milwaukee Archdiocese is evidence that Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, put $57 million in a trust fund for cemeteries out of concern it could be awarded to victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests.
Dolan, the current archbishop of New York and the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, was considered a contender for the recent papal vacancy eventually filled by Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina. Dolan has long been regarded as one of the "good guys" of the Catholic Church for being an outspoken supporter of the victims of clergy sexual abuse scandals.

"When you think of what happened, both that a man who proposes to act in the name of God would have abused an innocent young person and that some bishops would have, in a way, countenanced that by reassigning abusers — that's nothing less than hideous," Dolan said on a 60 Minutes interview in 2011. "That's nothing less than nauseating,"

Archdiocese of Milwaukee. (Photo by Stephen Nessen/WNYC.)

Within the more than 6,000 pages of documents is evidence that Dolan tried to
prevent some church assets from going to the abused, and that he used financial payments to try and encourage abusive priests to leave the church voluntarily — rather than wait out what could be a lengthy Vatican process.
“I welcome today’s voluntary release of documents by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee that contain information and details related to sexual abuse by clergy, and how the Archdiocese of Milwaukee responded to it," Dolan said in a statement Monday. "Unfortunately, we have already seen how the release of these documents will cause some to raise old and discredited attacks."
Dolan was ordained archbishop of Milwaukee in 2002 by Pope John Paul II a position he held until moving to New York in 2009.

In a 2007 letter to the Vatican, Dolan requested authority to transfer $57 million in church assets into a trust fund in an attempt to, as he put it, "protect the funds from any legal claim and liability."

The documents were released as a concession to the 575 men and women filing claims of alleged sexual abuse by Catholic priests and church employees. In a move they considered best for repaying the victims, the Milwaukee Archdiocese filed for bankruptcy in 2011. Negotiations over payments have since deteriorated and the victims are accusing the church of shielding the money.

Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki said the assets Dolan placed in trust were always earmarked for cemetery care.

"The cemetery funds have always been seen as an asset in trust, and Cardinal Dolan perpetuated that," he said in an interview with WTMJ-AM on Tuesday.

The victims will try to bring the trust funds into play in the bankruptcy proceedings, said Laurie Goodstein, national religion correspondent for the New York Times.
"The lawyers for the victims are insisting that those should be a part of the assets that are available to the creditors and most of the creditors are the abuse victims," she said.

A bankruptcy judge has yet to rule on that claim. Meanwhile, the church has been reluctant to settle its claims, arguing about 400 of the 575 cases are invalid.
Cases included within the documents span up to eighty years, and more than half of the 45 priests named in the documents have died.

"We may never have the complete picture because the records are not always clear and there is no way to delve more deeply because many of the people involved are dead or have had memories fade as 20, 30 or 40 years or more have passed," Listecki said in a statement. "The documents present one part of the history of what happened and demonstrate how people tried to do their best with what they knew at the time."

Autism: It's a Family Thing

by F Guzzardi

It has been estimated that the divorce rate is in the 80% range in families with children who have autism (Bolman, 2006). Despite high rates of marital conflict, many couples do not reach out for couples therapy. Lack of respite is a major reason. For most, finding a babysitter with whom then can safely leave an autistic child who has toileting issues, little communication skills, aggression and other inappropriate behaviors on a regular basis is difficult . Another reason is their lack of belief that they will find a therapist understanding of their particular circumstance and offer any true guidance, thus preferring to use the precious time away from the child to confide in a good friend.

Marital stress around the child usually starts when one or both of the parents realizes the child is not developing properly. Couples who have a child who does not seek their attention in the usual way (i.e., eye contact, reaching out for or giving of affection, searching them for comfort when hurt) find it hard not to feel rejected or unimportant to the child. For those whose child develops normally and then regresses around 18-24 months, there is the added loss of the child they knew slipping away. Consider also that a couple looks forward to having a child, and each person had his idea of what the expected child will be like. When the child does not match the expectation, or regresses, there is a loss and anguish felt by the parent not unlike the stages of grief that people who lose a loved one experience .

Other stages of added stress are: getting a diagnosis (family physicians are reluctant to make a diagnosis on a condition once rare for which they have no set treatment plan to prescribe); getting services (a constant struggle); dealing with adolescence (sexual development appears, uncontrolled tantrums can be dangerous as the teen gets bigger); and post high school (the realization that few adult services are available).
Keeping any marriage healthy takes time, and all too often, time gets swallowed up by the autistic child's needs. Many children with an ASD have difficulty sleeping, meaning that at least one of the parents is sleep deprived. Usually, a role division takes place as one parent, usually mom, becomes the autism expert, while dad works harder to earn money or opts out. Differences of opinion exasperate an already difficult situation - how much time, energy and money is to be spent on helping the child is based on personal philosophy, and in this the couple may clash. Over time, dad becomes frustrated at the demands of their wives to interact or play with a child who does not know how, and moms become frustrated at the lack of involvements of their partners.
As well, a common pattern among moms is to wonder what they did wrong - drinking or taking medications during pregnancy, exercising too much, allowing the child to be vaccinated, thus adding feelings of guilt to an already stressful situation. Also, the couple eventually feels isolated because they feel it is hard to take an autistic child to people's homes and are uncomfortable inviting people over.
Sometimes the couple becomes closer than ever, bonded in their shared circumstances. Unfortunately, usually the stress of dealing with autism and all it entails - the constant and necessary advocacy at school, the fighting for services and supports, the added financial burden, trying to handle behaviors and meltdowns at home - becomes a wedge pushing the spouses further and further apart. Overwhelmed, stressed and exhausted, the couple's communication becomes impaired and even autistic-like, lacking emotion and reciprocity. This can affect other children in the family.

How Therapists Can Help
There many ways in which therapists can help the family unit. For all those who need more information or need access to a support group and are not yet hooked into resourses, there are various support groups availalbe in different areas. Check on the webistes of national organizaitons such as the  Autism Society of America, TACA, and NAA.
Couples need to be encouraged to acknowledge and face the emotions of the grief cycle (i.e., denial, grief, depression, anger) and the loss of the child they were expecting, and to work through these emotions. Misdirected anger is often released at school personnel in Individualized Educational Program (IEP) meetings or taken out on service providers, thus alienating the very people who are there to help them.
Encouraging couples to regularly schedule time together without the children is important. However, this suggestion is useless unless the therapist can support them in devising a practical plan for finding the respite help they need.
The lack of qualified babysitters can be a very real obstacle to finding time together or continuing therapy. Working on good communication skills and looking at how they can support each other is important. The couple needs to realize and accept that their partner may react differently to having an autistic child and a different viewpoint when it comes to how much effort and money to put into treatment, as well as what kinds of treatments to pursue.
Encouraging dads to take a more active role with agreed upon treatments, generalizing some of the skills the child has learned through his ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) program, helping with Mstructure, limit setting and discipline can be very helpful. For this to occur, dad needs more information and training. Perhaps coming up with some dad-oriented informational materials could be useful. A good on-line support group for dads is

Resignation of Calderoli

"Today I received this email from some friends, via you share the moral and civic values of this petition, please sign it, it costs nothing and the relief that comes is miraculous. We do not need people  of this caliber are part of our government  in the most important positions  of institutions."

 Hello Fabrizio,
Following the racist statements referring to the Minister Kyenge, ask the President Grasso to dismiss  Calderoli from the post of Vice President of the Senate.
Sign the petition
The statements of the minister Calderoli against Kyenge ("seems an orangutan") is the indicator of a sub racist culture for too long accepted or declassified to "verbal excesses."

In his words, as always, shines through hatred of the minister Kyenge, which has the double mistake of being a woman and not have white skin.

We have already managed to get away from the European Parliament Borghezio, star of similar businesses racist, with victorious petition supported by 130 thousand people.

The European Parliament has reprimanded the words racist of Borghezio, who was shown the door by its group.

There is no reason why Italy does not do the same.

This spiral of racism must be cut short. We ask  President  of Senate Grasso  that : already at the next sitting of the Senate, notice the request to dismiss this gentleman, at least from the post of vice-president and boycott the sessions which he presided.

Thank you,

Stefano Corradino and Beppe Giulietti via

Hinduism a monotheistic religion

by F Guzzardi

During my wanderings (searching for the meaning of life), I happened to spend a few months in India, including New Delhi and the Taj Mahal.

The first feeling I had in New Delhi, it was to be back in home. I had never been over there before then ... The driver of the hotel  was waiting for me at the exit of the airport with a panel which he written (
crippled ) my name.

I had to meet people for work and
seen  the poor quality of my English, I went around escorted by a translator  who also served as a tour guide.
Not far from where I was staying, had just completed the largest Hindu temple in the city. Escaping at the supervision of my interpreter, I ventured to visit the place.

The temple was located in a large wooded park and had the form of a large lotus flower, but the thing  was most surprised  me, is  the respectful silence of the pilgrims, had its interior completely devoid of any ornament or symbols. The pilgrims came from all over India, were sitting, meditating, without reciting any prayers or chants. I sat down like a perfect atheist   curious of religions, and I was reminded of all wrong information disseminated  in the world about this religion.

Basic concepts of Hinduism

Oneness of God

Hinduism is a monotheistic religion, in fact believes in one God"God is One, but sages call it by different names" (Rig Veda, I, 164)

God is one but is expressed in countless ways and forms. Hundreds are in fact the gods of the Hindu pantheon, and such a diversity of expressions of the Divine exists so that every human being can find their own way to achieve it.

Hinduism is unity in diversity: it is a universal religion and extremely tolerant.

"See the unity in diversity, the One God appears in many forms, is its immense vastness, indescribable glory. All the endless lands, the lonely and the planets that are seen and those beyond our perception, exist for his control. Lit in various forms, the eternal flame is One. Illuminating the world with the golden rays of dawn, painting the clouds with changing colors of the evening, the sun is one. " (Rig Veda)

Composed of a myriad of faiths, cultures and philosophies, unites millions of people in the world around great basic principles, respecting each other's diversity and valuing the uniqueness of each individual.
In Hinduism includes many spiritual traditions, which are like different roads leading to the same goal: God is One and appears in many forms, but each form is Him
"He knows the truth who knows this God as One. Neither the second nor the third or fourth He is called, or fifth, or sixth, or seventh He is called, nor eighth or ninth or tenth He called, He survives everything that breathes and does not breathe, he holds the supreme power. He is One, One, in Him all the divine powers become only one. " (Atharva Veda)

Karma is the responsibility

The possibility to realize their divine nature through conscious action.
"It is said that a person consists of desires. As is his desire, so is his will. How is your will, so is his action. Whatever action is fulfilled, that you reap. How you act so you become . One becomes virtuous by virtuous actions, you become evil for evil deeds. " (Bhagavad-gita)
The Law of Karma is not fatalism or resignation, but responsibility to act, "you reap what you sow."

Suffering is the result of avidya, ignorance. Following the dharma and through the selfless act, the man overcomes the constraints generated by himself and conquer the only true freedom, that of ego.

Samsara, the cycle of incarnations

The birth and death are nothing but moments of change in the eternal flow of life.
"As a man stopping used clothes, takes new ones, so just the embodied soul, no longer worn-out bodies, is to assume new ones." (Bhagavad-gita)

Samsara is the cycle of birth, death, rebirth, new life and then again of death, and so on ad infinitum. The fruition of desires experience is accumulated in the basic trust that, until its complete exhaustion, determines the phenomenon of return in another body. Dissolving the veil of separation and ignorance, he realizes the only purpose of life, the creation of the immortal Self.

Purushartha the four purposes of life.

Principles that govern the life of man in his becoming: their achievement aims to achieve a happy, satisfying the material and spiritual needs in harmony with the ethical standards and in view of the ultimate goal: the liberation.

Dharma the universal ethical

The principle that brings harmony such other purposes as the existence and represents the universal ethical laws that govern the entire cosmos poster.

Artha well-being

The realization of the overall well being, also in relation to the material conditions and means to enable them to maintain a good health and a social condition satisfactory.

Kama desire
The desire that supports any action in accordance with the dharma and harmonious enjoyment of sensual pleasures and the assets that you have.

Mokshala release

Liberation from the cycle of incarnations and the bondage of the ego, to recognize what we have always been: one God and one with God

The ultimate goal of life and fulfillment of a long evolutionary path is the recognition, in which every living being will come, of his divine nature or rather the only Reality, beyond the illusory nature of the world, is God

This is the synthesis of Hinduism, which I consider one of the most noble religions in the world, and if there was a God .. I'd like if it was the one described in the Vedas or the Bhagavad-gita

Philips first of its kind minimal contact mask helps to improve the quality of life for sleep apnea patients

Murrysville, Pa., USA – June 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ –Philips Respironics, a unit of Royal Philips (NYSEPHGAEX:PHI) and a pioneer in science-based sleep solutions, today announces a significant advancement in sleep therapy with the commercial release of a first of its kind minimal contact nasal mask – Wisp. Designed to fit more than 98% of sleep apnea patients, Wisp brings distinctive styling and patented technology for a better overall mask experience that may improve patient compliance.
For the millions of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients who rely on positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy, finding the right mask is a critical step. The Philips Respironics lead engineer responsible for the design of the Wisp new hybrid mask knows firsthand the importance of comfort and fit; he and his son haveOSA, the most common form of sleep-disordered breathing.OSA can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and other serious conditions if left untreated. The PAP treatment works by delivering a gentle flow of pressurized air through a mask to keep the airway open. Fit and comfort are key factors in a patient’s adherence to therapy and success.
“We set out to create a new class of mask that can improve the quality of life of a majority of patients with chronic sleep conditions, and in doing so, reduce operational complexity for homecare providers. Clinicians, providers and patients from around the world told us what they were looking for in a mask,” says John Frank, senior vice president, general manager, Sleep and Respiratory Care, Philips Home Healthcare Solutions. “That insight coupled with the ingenuity of our design team led to the development of Wisp.” In CPAP patient preference and provider ease of use studies, Wisp was preferred over the leading nasal and nasal pillows in several categories.1 “Even the most hard-to-fit patients are reporting satisfaction.”
A departure from traditional masks, Wisp combines the performance and comfort of a nasal mask with the aesthetic of a pillows mask to deliver best in class performance in four areas: comfort, ease of use, visual appeal, and the ability to fit a wide range of patients. Compact and lightweight, Wisp offers a minimal contact experience, a superior seal and an open field of vision. Patients can read and even wear their glasses. A variety of new features and customization options add to the mask’s universal appeal:
  • Minimal headgear – no forehead pad – and minimal parts
